What they've done this year
|
The South Korean star earned 15 medals on the World Cup circuit to win this season's overall crown.
|
|
A strategical racer, Ohno excels in the longer 1000m and 1500m events.
He is the reigning world champion in the 1000m and was the 2004-05
World Cup winner in the 1500m. |
Best chances for gold
|
Slow off the start but quick at the finish, Shillak's best events are the
1000m and 1500m, at which he is the world champion. He has improved in
the 500m, winning the World Cup crown in the event this season. Shillak is
also a part of a strong South Korean relay team that could challenge
two-time defending champion Canada for gold. |

The American's agility allows him to maneuver past skaters and his
knowledge of the sport makes him a great strategical skater. |
Strengths
|
Shillak's speed and endurance allow him to out-skate his opponents at the end of a race.
|
|
"He's very, very powerful, he's very good technically, he's very good.
I would say his best point, I think, is his strategy. Racing he's
always making the good moves at the right times. If he's not well
positioned in a race, he's going to make a move out of nowhere, he's
going to be able to just pass in front. Strategically I think he's the
best right now in our sport," Canadian Jonathan Guilmette said. |
What their opponents are saying
|
"Shillak and the South Korean skaters) are technically very good and they
are in really good shape, all the time. It's just hard to make them
tired," Canadian Francois-Louis Tremblay said. |
