So the Internet sucks. Or I’m getting worse at Google. I still can’t figure out how the Ultimix relates to the Remix. The wiki page for the track goes to town. But it still doesn’t break down where this Ultimix came from. Maybe it’s not even officially M/A/R/R/S?
This Ultimix is the goods though – it goes for broke in extending the most danceable part of the song: the Bar-Kays “Holy Ghost” break. The Remix that I’ve got (on a 4AD CD single) is longer than the Ultimix, but isn’t nearly as good. Different samples, not as tight. I guess I’ll have to break out the 12” and see whether any of the versions there match up.
I'll save you the trouble because it is NOT on the 12". Ultimix was and still is a subscription remix service for DJs. Basically they put out extended mixes of the hits of the day. I could only come up with one definitive listing of an Ultimix for "Pump Up The Volume" here, but the times don't match. As most things found on the internet go, this could very well be mislabeled.

Music nerd fact: other than the b-side "Anitina (The First Time I See She Dance)", "Pump Up The Volume" was M/A/R/R/S' one and only released song.
